Cabernet Sauvigon
Mt Pilot Estate is run by Lachlan and Penny Campbell, located in the granite-infused hills north of Eldorado, to the south of the Hume Highway between Wodonga and Wangaratta.
Both the Shiraz and this cabernet are rich and intense, with beautiful ripe fruit aromas and flavours, noticeable oak which the fruitiness of the wine has absorbed admirably.
2006 Shiraz & 2008 Viognier
If you think you’ve lost your passion for wine, then drink and get your mojo back with this one – it’s a life changer!
I’m not quite sure how they’ve done it but it’s a gift: Without question, this is what we at Essentials like to call ‘a rockstar wine’ – that is, a wine at the top of its pecking order, without any doubt.
Mt Pilot, a small family-owned boutique vineyard situated in the harsh/dry granitic hills of Eldorado, Victoria, is quietly known for producing precious low yield gems of amazing fruit.
Intense flavours are our feature
In a recent review of our wine, independent wine expert David Sutherland described both the Shiraz and Cabernet as “rich wines with beautiful fruit, good structures and classy oak“. When asked to summarise Mt Pilot Estate wines in one word, David wrote “Classy“.
Mt Pilot Estate Viognier Chardonnay
Barrrel-fermented in French oak, the wine is a marvellous combination of the voluptuousness of ripe viognier and the steeliness of cool-climate chardonnay. Soft peachy fruit aromas on the nose with some herbal notes, the palate is rich and intense but with a lovely balance and freshness. The alcohol is nicely counter-balanced with lively acidity.

I would not have thought these two varieties could blend so harmoniously together if I had not tasted the wine…
